“A person is a vessel which needs to be filled with knowledge. It is a power which guides the person through life and aids in sustaining him as an individual” says Marina Terentieva, Founder, Owner of Sunflower Center. Celebration of Knowledge Days are seen across various cultures and different academic arenas, and are especially emphasized in the Russian culture. The importance of these types of events is linked to the days of the Russian Intelligentsia. Akin to the white collar middle class in the United States, this class was comprised of highly educated professionals such as doctors, professors and engineers.
The Intelligentsia believed that the masses were poorly educated and that the key to a bright future and for the world to prosper was only through education of the masses. They aimed to spread the knowledge, disseminate culture and develop the masses. The Celebration of Knowledge Day is a commemoration of this view of the significance of education and culture.
Sunflower Center shares this view and actively partakes in the education and erudition of today’s youth through offering an array of extracurricular activities and classes. Terentieva states, “Children are thinking beings that need to be lead in the process. Our mission is to prepare children for life by guiding them down the right path of education, knowledge and self-discovery.”
Sunflower Cultural Center was founded in 2007. Sunflower Center is a multi-faceted company with an array of services for children, parents and professionals.
